On Wednesday April 2nd, the Combined 6th Grade Band traveled to Riverview Nursing Center in Mokane to perform for the residents. A total of three concerts, featuring the middle school band members, will take place during the final two months of the school year as part of the Peter R. Marsh Foundation's program to promote local schools providing music and fellowship with local nursing homes. This grant based program was established in 2004 and annually provides monetary donations to middle school music programs, including the South Callaway Middle School Band Department. We would like to thank the residents of Riverview for being a great audience and such great hosts during our fellowship time. Special thanks to Makhia Otten for being our contact with Riverview for helping to schedule these concerts.

What does the driver do in the morning once the students are dropped off at each building and the big yellow bus is parked?
At South Callaway R-II they regularly attend a class or meeting of their own that helps them stay up-to-date on all aspects of transporting students in a safe and legal manner. Today, Special Education Law Specialist Attorney Betsey Helfrich, of The Law Office of Betsey Helfrich, LLC, presented a special training for the South Callaway R-II Transportation Department. The drivers, bus aides, mechanics, and supervisors learned about IDEA, 504, and IEP requirements for transporting students safely, and how to best serve all students in the district.
