Students and staff at the ES competed in a Pre-Super Bowl competition against a local Philadelphia school, Maud Abrams Elementary in Cape May, NJ. Over the last week students were challenged to log as many reading minutes in hopes to defeat the Eagles. Our South Callaway students combined to read a total of 34,335 minutes to defeat Maud Abrams Elementary's 22,284 minutes. At the end of the week students visited each classroom to learn more about each other's school. Go Chiefs!

South Callaway R-II Introduces New SPED Director Effective July 1!
The South Callaway R-II Board of Education and Superintendent Corey Pontius announces the hiring of a new Director of Special Services effective July 1, 2025.
Gary Ash will replace the district’s current Director of Special Services, Amanda Wogan, who will retire on June 30. Ash has been the Process Coordinator for the district for the past four years. Previously, he has been a Special Education Teacher at the Early Childhood, Elementary, and Middle School buildings. Bringing a total of 24 years of experience in education to his new role, he has also taught at Hermann Gasconade County R-I, Montgomery County R-II, and St. Clair R-XIII.
Mr. Ash holds a Master Degree in Elementary and Secondary Administration from Missouri Baptist University, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education with an area of concentration in Behavior Disorders from Southeast Missouri University in Cape Girardeau.
“I am excited to continue to work with the family of professionals I have been with while at South Callaway. I’ll be working with an amazing staff of teachers and paraprofessionals,” said Ash.
He considers his close working relationship with the current Director of Special Services and his experience in the district to be a great asset.
“I want to continue to build the relationships with families and community members I’ve enjoyed so far. I will continue to promote those key community connections that are important to the success of all students.”
Director Wogan says she is especially pleased that Mr. Ash will continue the work of the district during her tenure as department director. "Gary Ash stepping into this role marks an exciting new chapter for our district,” said Wogan. “ With his vast knowledge, extensive experience, and unparalleled professionalism, I have full confidence that the district will be in incredibly capable hands. Gary’s leadership will ensure continued growth and success for everyone involved."
