🍩 A "Hole" Lot of Fun at "Donuts with Grown-ups"!🍩
What a fantastic morning at South Callaway Early Childhood! Our hearts (and stomachs) are full after seeing so many smiling faces at our Donuts with Grown-ups event today. Over 350 donuts were served! 🍩 (That’s a lot of sprinkles!)
It was wonderful to see our students proudly showing their "grown-ups" around and enjoying some quality time together before the school day began. Whether it was a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, or family friend, your presence made the morning truly special.
A huge thank you to our volunteers and staff who helped organize, set up tables and chairs, and keep the frosting under control. We couldn’t have done it without you!
Check out the photos to see some of the morning's highlights. 📸✨

SCMS Enrichment Class Learns to Turn Dough to Dollars!
A big shout out to Ohana's Pizza and Chris Johnston for coming to South Callaway Middle School on Tuesday, April 14th to teach Coach Burns's enrichment class how to make pizza. During Tuesday's visit, he demonstrated how to make pizza sauce and dough from scratch. Ohana's Pizza provided all supplies free of charge.
Mr. Johnston returned on Thursday, April 16th to walk the class through the process of assembling and baking pizzas. Each student was able to create their own pizza while Mr. Johnston educated them about owning their own business. Chris even brought each student a pizza box and showed them how to fold it. Our students absolutely loved the experience and got to eat a delicious lunch to boot!
Thanks Ohana's Pizza!

Leadership & Service at South Callaway Middle School!
South Callaway Student Council President Kennedy Dickinson and Vice President Layton Gerard turned an idea into action by organizing a Student Council Service Day!
After presenting their idea to the principal, they worked alongside sponsor Danielle Hecktor—but truly took the lead. From making phone calls and creating schedules to organizing permission slips and activities, these students handled it all.
Despite weather changing their original plans, 14 students started their day helping clean out PE closets at school. They then spent time at Fulton Nursing & Rehab, playing games, bingo, and coloring with residents—bringing smiles to many faces.
After lunch at the park, the group wrapped up their day at Trends, a second hand store that supports SERVE and the local food pantry. Students spent two hours cleaning, sorting, stocking items, and helping wherever needed.
These students showed incredible work ethic, leadership, and heart. They’re already asking to do it again next year!

Happy Paraprofessional Appreciation Day!

In cooperation with Riverview Nursing Center and the Peter R. Marsh Foundation, Band 7 performed three songs from their upcoming Spring Concert for the residents on Wednesday March 25. After the brief concert, our band students took time to visit with the residents who were in attendance, talking about their instruments and what is going on in middle school. Thank you again to all of our partners who helped make this year's Riverview Concert Series possible.

In February, four of our Middle School Band members Wesley P., Henry A., Landon J., and Madison B. traveled to Macon to participate in the 2026 Northeast Junior High All-District Band. This nomination based band features a chair audition process, clinician-led sectionals and rehearsals and culminates in an evening concert. Congratulations again to these fine young musicians on a great day and concert.

Recently, our 5th Graders were introduced to new class options that they can take in Middle School, including Band. Current members of our Band program showcased their instruments, fielded questions and then a few lucky 5th graders even got to try out instruments in this fun event. If you have a current 5th grader that is interested in being in Band in 6th grade, please contact Mrs. Foster, our Middle School Counselor, who is in charge of scheduling for 6th graders.
