“South Callaway Coaching Foundational Beliefs”
Below you will find 5 points that sum up the coaching philosophy of South Callaway football. These tenets are what are encouraged at all coaching levels and are used to guide all coaching decisions.
We will always show our athletes that we care. In order to become the best athlete and young person possible our athletes must know we care and that they are valuable. They are more important than winning!
We will always encourage our athletes to give their very best. The joy of any accomplishment only comes when you give your best in sport and in life.
Our first focus is to improve our athletes, beating the opponent is secondary. Success is determined by “breaking personal records” not from beating an opponent.
The group is more important than the individual. We encourage the understanding that they are part of something “bigger than themselves.” Our hope is that this will translate over in life to responsibilities to family and community.
Regardless of the situation, we will always promote doing what is right. We will not lower our standards to accomplish goals, but instead push ourselves by doing what is right to accomplish all we desire.
Strategies for Success:
It is our desire that next year’s football players would be a generation of athletes that would help take South Callaway to new levels of success both on and off the field. Some areas that we specifically desire from next year’s leaders include...
- Always follow the principles of do right, do your best.
- Understand that you are always being watched and evaluated by coaches and teachers. Leaders are always leading others. The choice is yours whether to lead in a positive way or a negative way. As you are growing and learning about the kind of person you want to be you may have tough days. If you are struggling, please speak with myself, another coach, or someone you trust.
- We desire for you to show your commitment to this program not only during the season but off-season as well, specifically through participation in the strength and conditioning program. This is a baseline of commitment not only to football but also to improving your athletic ability in the weight room and in other sports.
- Studies have shown that a proper strength and conditioning program can help reduce injuries and contribute to improved athletic performance and self-confidence. Whether it is before or after school weightlifting or participation in strength and conditioning class, this is a key to making you the best athlete you can be.
- We desire for you to play as many school sponsored sports as possible.
- You are a leader in your class, whether by size, ability, personality, etc. Use this God given talent for a greater purpose. Encourage your teammates and get them excited about playing with you. Help them dream big dreams. Do not be unkind, instead serve them. Spend extra time working with struggling teammates and always be positive and encouraging. Be the type of leader everyone wants to play for not against!
- We are excited to have you be a part of our South Callaway football program and athletic community! We look forward to watching your legacy unfold during your time in the program. Help us make this school even better!
